A Wonderful Evening at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center

While the Honky Tonks are always bustling with country, rock, and bluegrass fans, who doesn’t love a grand night out at the symphony? One of our favorite downtown Nashville music venues is the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, especially for a romantic evening out on the town. And, of course, this being Music City, you’ll find a fantastic selection of options for shows at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, including movie scores, rock and roll adaptations, and classic works from famed composers such as Brahms and Mozart.

The Schermerhorn Symphony Center is located in the heart of downtown Nashville, neighboring the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, and Ascend Amphitheater. The symphony center officially opened in 2006; inside, the 30,000-square-foot Laura Turner Concert Hall is home to the Nashville Symphony. The three-level space is designed in the shoebox style and holds 1,844 seats. There’s a smaller performance hall for intimate shows, as well as an interior public garden courtyard. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a show and grab a lovely dinner at one of the best restaurants in Nashville.

Before you start booking your shows at Schermerhorn Symphony Center, you’ll want to secure your lodging, and a stay at our romantic Nashville Bed and Breakfast is the best addition to any getaway to Tennessee. Catch a Show at Schermerhorn Symphony Center

The architecture of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center combines New Classical design with Neo-Classical components. A few other structures in Nashville, including the full-scale Parthenon replica in Centennial Park and the downtown public library, offer similar architectural blends. The buildings interior incorporates technological and acoustic features for maximum musical enjoyment.

Take notice of the intricate symbolic motifs throughout the hall and the rest of the center—including irises (the Tennessee State flower), horseshoes (for Laura Turner), and coffee beans (to honor a founding family of the orchestra and who also owned Maxwell House Coffee.) In 2009, Schermerhorn Symphony Center was recognized as among the top 25 North and South American finalists in the Urban Land Institute’s Awards for Excellence for superior design.

Here are a handful of shows coming up this year at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center not to miss:

  2. The first weekend in June offers a chance to hear the brilliance of Mozart’s Requiem live and in person. Giancarlo Guerrero will conduct the Nashville Symphony through this striking and instantly recognizable masterpiece.
  3. For modern movie fans, the Nashville Symphony will present the music of Marvel’s Black Panther this summer. Hearing Ludwig Göransson’s Oscar-winning score live to the picture will be unforgettable.
